Reading
The third grade reading program is called Journeys by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The students in third grade learn about many different skills such as comprehension, fluency, phonics, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing. They also use the Accelerated Reader program. Students may use the ThinkCentral.com website to access reading materials that we use in class.
Math
The third grade will be using GO Math! which is a comprehensive program developed to support Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the NCTM Curriculum Focal Points. The program emphasizes Essential Questions and Big Ideas with depth of understanding as the goal. The curriculum involves a great deal of technology which the kids can use from home. Science
Movement and Interaction of Objects
Students will plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalance forces on the motion of an object.

Social Studies
We will read and discuss information about different Communities and Geography throughout the school year. Topics include how communities change, different cultures, communities at work, and communities and government.
English
We will work on parts of speech in English. We will focus on adjectives and adverbs, while reviewing nouns, verbs, and pronouns. We will continue to work on main idea and details while working on various writing skills.
